The Female
and Male Body

Male breasts

Male breasts also contain mammary glands, but unlike in females,
they are not developed.

Humans are either male or female. Physiologically speaking, females have XX sex chromosomes, while males have XY sex chromosomes. Women usually have broad hips, developed breasts, fat deposits in various places of their bodies, and reproductive systems able to produce egg cells. Men are characterised by a strong and tall body structure, muscularity, denser body hair, strong facial hair, prominent laryngeal cartilage, deep voice, penis, scrotum and a reproductive system able to produce sperm.

Differences between women and men

Apart from the chromosomal difference, the anatomy of the male and female bodies also greatly differs. Modern imaging has revealed that men’s brains are approximately 10% larger than women’s brains both in terms of mass and volume. Women have more nerve fibers on their face, more connections in their brain and more developed speech skills than men do. The two sexes are also different with regard to processing emotions and stress management.
Men have greater muscle mass and muscle strength, slightly greater bone mass and significantly less fat than women. The lung capacity of men is also greater than that of women.

Larynx

In women, this organ is smaller than in men,
thus the female voice is higher pitched.

Female breasts

Their primary function is to nourish an infant child.
They consist of fatty tissue
and the mammary gland.

Male reproductive organs

The male reproductive organs are the testiscles, the seminal vesicles, the epididymides,
the sperm ducts, the prostate and the penis. Male gametes are called sperm cells.

Female
reproductive organs

These include the ovaries, the Fallopian tubes, the uterus,
the vagina and the external reproductive organs.
The ovaries contain immature eggs cells, that is, female gametes.

Hormones

Substances produced by the glands of the endocrine system, that participate in the regulation many body functions, together with the nervous system.
